- Authors
Felsenstein, Frank
- Abstract
The article discusses research on the identification of 18th-century Englishman Adolphus Middleton, nicknamed Wig Middleton, who is described in the book "Travels Through France and Italy," by Scottish writer Tobias Smollett, as maintaining the traditional clothing of Englishmen rather than adopting the fashions of the French. The author presents the research as an addendum to his work editing "Travels Through France and Italy" when it was published by the Oxford University Press publishing company in 1979. Listings and news items from the periodicals "London Evening Post" and "General Advertiser," as well as the book "The Court and City Register for the Year 1759."
