- Abstract
The article discusses the connections of Jane Austen's novels with the history of the Cavendish family. The possibility of a link is strengthened by the fact that there was a direct connection between the Cavendishes and Jane Austen's cousins. Several of the names used in "Pride and Prejudice" relate to the history of the Cavendish family which indicates that Austen would have been well aware of them. There are other connections also as the fictional town of Lambton might perhaps be named after Lady Caroline Lamb, related to the family.
