Driving ban for diesel-powered vehicles in major cities: an appropriate penalty for exceeding the limit value for nitrogen dioxide?
- Authors
Möhner, Matthias
- Abstract
The article discusses the driving ban penalty for exceeding the limit value for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from diesel-powered vehicles in major cities. It compares the European sanctions and the recommendation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. It explains that NO2 is a marker for air pollution from motorized road traffic, which releases particulate matter, gaseous pollutants sulfur dioxide ( SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
