The article reports that the collections at natural history museums have served as primary infrastructure for the field of mammalogy since the very founding of the American Society of Mammalogists (ASM). Museums provide professional mammalogists access to specimens and associated data, and offer a wealth of opportunities for training the next generation of mammalogists.
