- Abstract
Publicists had to reinvent the technical resources that classical rhetoricians invented. The research was undertaken with the overall objective of establishing the cognitive positioning of Rhetoric for students of Advertising and Public Relations at the Complutense University of Madrid, formulating two hypotheses: 1) the level of knowledge of Rhetoric in students of Advertising and Public Relations is low; 2) the association between rhetorical activity and advertising activity made by students of Advertising and Public Relations is substantive. A sample of 71 students from the 3rd year of the Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations at the Complutense University of Madrid responded to a quantitative survey through an on-line questionnaire. The results indicate a huge contrast between the high levels of awareness of the strategic importance of Rhetoric for the activity of advertising, and the appreciation that the training received in Rhetoric is clearly insufficient.
