- Abstract
This article presents/discusses the main elements of Goethe's scientific thought that are present in the theoretical corpus of anthroposophic medicine, a medical rationality recently investigated by Luz and collaborators. Goethe's scientific method is presented in terms of identification of the Ürphanomen, nature's primordial phenomena, and their essential empirical manifestations. The authors propose to go beyond the dichotomy between experience and idea, arguing that any split in the analysis of phenomena poses obstacles to the full understanding of nature. Anthroposophical medicine presents certain patterns as essentially constitutive of reality, and the interpretative keys to these patterns are, in Goethean terms, the primordial phenomena of macrocosm (universe) and microcosm (human being), which may be in dynamic situations of harmony (health) or disharmony (illness).
