The article presents the benefits of integrating multimodal composition in language arts classrooms. It provides core features and practices of multimodal composition workshops and maker spaces in language arts teaching. Also discussed are three tensions constraining progress related to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), high-stakes testing, and the need for professional development support.
