- Abstract
The article presents a study that test competing models which depict interrelationships among the social power bases. The researchers selected Hunter and Schmidt's meta-analytic procedure since it was developed for use with correlational data. The comprehensive literature search yielded 16 studies containing 20 different samples reporting intercorrelations among the five power bases out of which 8 samples were eliminated from further analysis. After the collection of the literature, the researchers followed Hunter and Schmidt's meta-analytic procedure. In order to be included in the rneta-analysis, correlations between a selected criterion variable and each of French and Raven's five power bases had to be included in the research. Interpretation of the results indicated that legitimate and reward power bases are essentially unrelated to satisfaction with supervision. This suggests that normal usage of noncoercive positional power does not facilitate development of a subordinate's positive attitude toward a supervisor.
