- Abstract
This article examines the interaction between voluntary social welfare and social security in the U.S. The article begins by defining the terms social security and voluntary social welfare. According to the author, the wide variety of activities embraced in social welfare makes it difficult to define its limits. Next, the article identifies the ways in which voluntary welfare has contributed to the modern institutional development of social security. It also examines the impact of social security on voluntary welfare. The author concludes that the main contributions of voluntary welfare lies in its own programs and services.
