The article presents a discussion between Calvinist theologian John Owen and British Bishop Edward Stillingfleet of the Anglican Church on the issue of schism and apostasy. This was a result of the splintering of the English Reformed church into diverse communities during the 17th century which gave rise to accusations of schism. Both theologians based their arguments by analyzing the nature of the church and what defines it unity.
