- Abstract
Our objective was to use environmental regeneration as an ecological indicator to evaluate three restoration areas, located in Ivinhema, Jateí and Caarapó, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, after 12, 13 and 16 years of implantation, respectively. The regeneration was evaluated in 3 plots of 10 m x 10 m subdivided into plots of 1 m x 1 m. All individuals presenting diameter > 0.10 m and height = 3 m were sampled. The observed indexes of Shannon-Weaver diversity (H') and Pielou equability (J ') were: H' = 2.37 nat ind-1 and J' = 0.64 (Ivinhema); H ' = 3.36 nat ind-1 and J' = 0.76 (Jatei); and H ' = 3.16 nat ind-1 and J' = 0.75 (Ivinhema). In general, natural regeneration proved to be a good indicator of regeneration status in these three evaluated areas, making it possible to infer about its conservation. The results indicated that the regenerating community of Jateí and Caarapó, has great ecological representativeness and a considerable floristic diversity, including in the case of the restored area of Jateí, the presence of threaten species.
