Women, House, and Home in Contemporary Canadian Aboriginal Art.
- Authors
KALBFLEISCH, ELIZABETH
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the depiction of the concept of home in the works of Canadian Aboriginal artists Hannah Claus, Rebecca Belmore, and Rosalie Favell. Particular focus is given to themes of colonialism, nation, family, and identity in their work. It is suggested that Aboriginal people's ambivalent relationship to home and the tension between ideas and experiences of home create spaces for feminist creativity. Authority and domesticity are also discussed.
