- Abstract
The article discusses a study which described European Pipistrellus bat-derived coronavirus (CoVs) that are closely related to Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV. The researchers collected fecal pellets from 62 bats representing 13 different species in the KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa. The relationship between PML/2011 and MERS-CoV was confirmed by a Bayesian phylogenetic analysis.
