Abstract
The article discusses policy options to address the fiscal hole brought about by increased government spending without sufficient tax increases in Great Britain. The origin of the deficit is explained. The damage caused by the recession on public finances is noted along with measures intended to reduce deficit, which includes a series of tax hikes, and a cap on public pay settlements and public sector pensions.
