- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examined the relationship between patient panel characteristics and relative physician clinical performance rankings in a large academic primary care network. The study included 125,303 adult patients who visited any of the nine hospital-affiliated practices or four community health centers between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2005. Such patients were asked to rank physician quality based on Health Plan Employer and Data Information Set (HEDIS) measures. Study authors concluded that patient panels with majority number of underinsured, and non-English speaking patients are linked to lower quality primary care physicians rankings.
