The article examines the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) lack of authority to restrict the use of harmful chemicals in nail products which pose occupational health hazards to nail salon technicians. It examines the most pervasive nail product chemicals and their potential effects on occupational health. It analyzes the negative impact of the rigid cosmetic framework of the FDA on its pre- and post-market authority and its power to address nail product safety issues.
