- Title
The Body in Pain and Freedom of the Mind: Performing Beckett and Noh.
- Authors
Tanaka, Mariko Hori
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the plays written by Irish novelist, play writer, and poet Samuel Beckett and Japanese Noh plays. It states that Backett's plays are similar to Noh plays in terms of stylization. It further mentions that only when an actor's body experiences true pain and he experiences freedom of mind, he can enact his ontological condition. It also mentions that in both the plays, actors need to discard their self-consciousness and concentrate deeply.
