- Abstract
American black cherry (Prunus serotina Ehrh.) represents an attractive decorative element of urban greenery. The fruits of discussed plant are edible. As the result of two years of research, conducted on selected trees of black cherry within Wrocław area, four insect species foraging on P. serotina cherries have been found. Larvae of the beetles: Furcipus rectirostris and Rhynchites cupreus developed in pits of unripe fruits and damaged up to 11% of collected drupes. Females of Drosophila suzuki laid eggs mostly on ripening, fresh fruits hanging from the canopy, which resulted in damage to 10% of the crop. Development of Drosophila subobscura proceeded exclusively in ripe and fermented cherries on the ground.
