- Abstract
RESUMEN Introducción. Las alteraciones en el metabolismo de los carbohidratos muestran un espectro clínico, bioquímico, histológico y ultraestructural variado. La glucogenosis tipo I puede presentar diversas manifestaciones hepáticas y ocasionalmente renales.Caso clínico. Niño de 1 año 2 meses de edad, que presento desde los 2 meses de vida glucogenosis hepática tipo I, con hallazgos histológicos y ultraestructurales característicos; desarrolló insuficiencia renal con lesiones de glomeruloesclerosis focal y segmentaria, vacuolización epitelial tubular y nefritis tubulointersticial. Falleció de un cuadro de vías respiratorias y broncoaspiración.Conclusiones. El presente caso ilustra. las alteraciones renales en un lactante con glucogenosis tipo I que evolucionó rápidamente a insuficiencia renal, lo que usualmente ocurre a edades mayores. Es necesario vigilar la función renal en casos de glucogenosis, aún desde edades tempranas.PALABRAS CLAVE: Glucogenosis; glomeruloesclerosis focal segmentaria.ABSTRACT Introduction. Inborn errors of carbohydrate metabolism exhibit a wide clinical, biochemical, histological and ultrastructural spectra. Type I glycogen storage disease may present with diverse hepatic manifestations, occasional renal changes, and rarely Fanconi syndrome.Case report. A one year two months old boy with glycogen storage disease type I, developed, renal insufficiency secondary to focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis renal, tubular epithelial vacuolation, and tubulointerstitial nephritis. He died of broncopneumonia at one year two months of age.Conclusions. This case illustrates the renal alterations in an infant who rapidly evolved to renal failure, which usually occurs at an older age. I may be necessary a closely surveillance of renal function in patients with glycogen storage disease, even in very young ones...
