The authors review Individual Psychology and couples counseling. They discuss the use of metaphors as a practical way for couples and counselors to understand each other better. Four specific metaphors are described: (a) the As and Hs of Relationships, (b) Relationship as a Three-legged Sack Race, (c) Walls and Windows, and (d) Cracking the Shell. A case study demonstrating use of these metaphors is presented.
