- Abstract
Afyonkarahisar is located at the point of the intersection of the roads opening into different geographies. The province which makes a name for itself as the capital of the geothermal has become popular in the field of tourism, particularly medical tourism in recent years. Advertising and infrastructure studies have supported the development of domestic and international tourism. Alternative destinations in tourism are getting crucial nowadays. One of these destinations is earth pyramids in the region. Volcanic terrain has occurred in consequence of upper Miocene-Quaternary and interesting geomorphologic units being formed as a result of the erosion this terrain by streams and wind have formed fascinating earth pyramids in a state of geomorphosite around Afyonkarahisar Seydiler Phrygian Valley. Wonderful looking and very interesting earth pyramid which have been formed by white volcanic tuffs include cultural structures such as castles, underground shelters, rock monuments, temples, ancient settlement ruins, asylums, rock graves, water cisterns, chapel and churches. Pyramidal looking forms which have been formed by volcanic tuffs are used for shelter after being built by skillful people under the reign of the Hittites, Phrygians and Byzantines. The aim of the study is to evaluate these formations and characters earth pyramids which have original formation and morphology, particularly earth pyramids in term of alternative tourism, and produce tourism potential.
