- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examined the costs and benefits of joining a nascent health information exchange (HIE) from the perspective of potential provider organization participants. Topics covered include the concerns about HIE increasing the risk of data security breaches, the need for state and federal governments to consider subsidies to sustain HIE and the importance of coordinating HIE policies with those of founding organizations.
