- Abstract
While there has been sufficient scholarship measuring the flows of remittances from countries receiving immigrants to their countries of origin much less is known about the impact of immigrant paid and unpaid labor on their host communities. We study Latinas in the Midwest and their participation in housework and carework both, within and outside their households. Using the data from the American Time Use Survey (ATUS), which records time spent by persons per household on activities of housework and carework from 2003 to 2016, we quantify the time Midwest Latinas spend as caretakers and reveal their otherwise statistically invisible contributions to social reproduction.
