- Abstract
The article discusses the prevention of acute kidney injury, and mentions the 2009 "National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcomes and Death: Adding Insult to Injury" study. It highlights the epidemiology of acute kidney injury, and focuses on the recognition of risk factors, including chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and hypotension. Also discussed is the optimization of volume status, rhabdomyolysis, pharmacological therapy and contrast-induced acute kidney injury.
