- Abstract
That one press bed was found in agricultural fields at Voutakos (Paros) and relocated to a local church within the last five years clearly highlights the need for further systematic investigation across SW Paros. These analyses will test theories that have long depended on representation in art and literature: for example, were carved stone press beds only used for oil production, or also for wine, or both? Chemical residue analysis is the most reliable method of detecting use, and we hope to be able to test the efficacy of this methodology on a range of press beds located in surface survey in May 2022.
