- Abstract
António Lobo Antunes second novel, Os cus de Judas, is a pioneer novel of the Portuguese colonial war literary tradition. Published in 1979, the book becomes part of the author's first narrative project of finding a self-expression through a narration which goes beyond every single novel. The article explores how that esthetical project faces the linguistic and literary problematics of presenting the testimonial point of view that deals with a traumatic experience such as war, by means of a literary style that always underlines its own rhetoric nature. The language, as a communicative tool and as an autarchic exercise as well, will facilitate and limit the possibility of giving sense to a subjective experience that is trying to be told as a collective intimacy, shared by a silenced generation.
