- Title
Female Complaints and Certain Events: Silencing Abortion Discourse.
- Authors
Parker, Clare
- Abstract
The article looks at the evolution of language and portrayals of abortion and aborting women in advertisements and court reports in South Australia from the 1890s to the 1930s. It argues against the inefficacy of two legislation that aimed to silence the publication of materials relating to sexuality, sex and immorality in preventing abortion discourse. It also looks at how the discussion of abortion in Australian newspapers has changed after the legality of abortion in Great Britain in 1938.
