- Authors
Devi, Indrashakhi
- Abstract
The article focuses on kinship terminologies in Meiteiron language, spoken primarily in the state of Manipur, India, as well as in Myanmar and Bangladesh, in which gender relations are manifested. It notes that Meiteiron kinship terminology is interesting in the sense that kinship terms are different for the same person based upon the gender of the speaker and the gender of the linked relative. It concludes that Meitei women are viewed to be subordinate to males as they maintain a different sub-culture.
