US Officials Acknowledge Moral Issues in Gaza, But Will They Do Anything?
- Authors
HUNT, EDWARD
- Abstract
US officials in Washington have acknowledged the moral issues surrounding Israel's military campaign in Gaza, particularly the high number of innocent civilian casualties, including children. While the US has continued to support Israel's military operations, officials have disavowed calls by Israeli officials to depopulate Gaza, recognizing that it goes against international law. Other countries, such as South Africa, have taken more direct action by accusing Israel of genocide and bringing a case to the International Court of Justice. However, despite acknowledging the devastating consequences for the civilian population, the Biden administration has supported Israel's offensive and vetoed a UN ceasefire resolution. Lower-level US officials have expressed concerns and some have even resigned in protest.
