Asymptomatic Erythematous Plaque in an Outdoorsman.
- Authors
Shirer Barker, Catherine; Elston, Dirk M.
- Abstract
This article discusses a case of a middle-aged man who presented with an asymptomatic erythematous plaque on his back. The patient was an avid gardener from South Carolina and had recently adopted two puppies. The diagnosis was determined to be erythema migrans, which is a characteristic rash of Lyme disease. The patient was treated with doxycycline and experienced complete resolution of the rash. The article emphasizes the importance of considering Lyme disease in the differential diagnosis, especially in endemic areas, and highlights the need for early treatment without waiting for serology results.
