New mosquito hybrid 69 resistant to bed-net insecticides.
- Authors
Blackwood, Katherine
- Abstract
The article discusses a study by researcher Gregory Lanzaro and others, concerning hybrid mosquitoes resistant to insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs), published in 2015 issue of the journal "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the U.S." The study reveals that due to adaptive introgression mechanism, gene for insecticide resistance was transferred to Anopheles coluzzii mosquitoes. Also the study mentions that the increased use of ITNs was responsible for appearance of hybrids.
