- Title
The Female Enthusiast Revived: Poetic Lineage in Aurora Leigh.
- Authors
Isom, Rachael
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of the poem "Aurora Leigh" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (EBB). Topics discussed include criticism on EBB's heroine, proliferation of female enthusiast figures in the literature of the 1820s and 1830s, reason EBB would abandon the concept upon which her early ideas of poethood were founded and why she was so determined that Aurora Leigh not be an enthusiast, and observation on EBB's religious imagery that aligns Aurora simultaneously with biblical prophecy.
