- Authors
STOLTE, TYSON
- Abstract
The article offers an analysis of Robert Browning's 1855 volume of poetry "Men and Women" in relation to the poetics theories of Coventry Patmore as developed in his 1857 "Essay on English Metrical Law" and in relation to developments in that period in psychology and theory of mind. Topics include the controversy over the poets critically labelled Spasmodic, Patmore's distinction between rhythm and meter, and mind-body dualism.
