The article presents an examination into the publication history and literary themes of the 19th-century poetry collection "Poems: An Offering to Lancashire," published by Victoria Press and featuring works by Christina Rossetti, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Mary Howitt, and others. Details are given focusing on the collection's role as a social commentary and criticism in relation to the cotton famine of Lancashire, England in response to the trade embargo of the U.S. during the Civil War.
