The essay focuses on the relationship between the poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning (EBB) and William Shakespeare. The author highlights the fascination of EBB towards Shakespeare and explores how she was influenced by the playwright, particularly by his depiction of young women. The essay also explores the positive and negative connotations to the label of "Shakespearean" held by EBB in context to her own works.
