- Abstract
This article investigates the farmhouse building process in North Carolina. The construction of farmhouses ranged in size and quality. A high proportion of the were not complete at the time of occupancy. Relatives comprised one-third of the labor force. Significant difference were noted in almost all phases of the building process when the families were grouped according to life-cycle stage and quality of the house constructed. The results of the study confirmed the basic assumption underlying the research.
