Stressing out about singing.
- Authors
Kasumovic, Michael M.
- Abstract
The author in this article states that bird songs are indeed an excellent example of the power of sexual selection to elaborate traits. In the review made by K. A. Spencer and S. A. MacDougall-Shackleton, they enforce that developmental stress hypothesis can be a potential mechanism for the maintenance of variation in song complexity and repertoire size. They suggest that stress due to reduced food availability during the birds' juvenile age will have large impact on song learning and development.
