- Title
Hammer Throw Center-of-Mass Movements.
- Abstract
This article reports on a study by J. Dapena titled "A kinematic study of the center of mass motions in the hammer throw." The author combined motion pictures taken of eight elite hammer throwers with standard estimates of body segment parameters. Using this data the author was able to calculate the centers of mass for the thrower, the hammer by itself and for the thrower and the hammer combined. The paths of these centers of mass were analyzed considering the thrower in the front of the throwing ring, the rotation of thrower and hammer and the tilt of the hammer alone. The motion of the hammer and the thrower were found to be in general synchrony. The study appeared in the "Journal of Biomechanics."
