- Title
Regional Integration: What Is in It for CARICOM?
- Authors
Moreira, Mauricio Mesquita; Mendoza, Eduardo
- Abstract
This article discusses the regional integration in the Caribbean region and the motivation behind this initiative. The authors argue that the traditional gains from regional integration are bound to be limited for various reasons, such as the openness in the Caribbean economies and the countries' similar factor endowments. Also, they argue that integration can produce substantial gains in the area of nontradables. This integration may generate benefits in nontradables as a result of regional cooperation in the region's social and physical infrastructure.
