- Abstract
The Nile River played an important and vital role in the history of the Crusades, and that role was embodied in the attempts of the Crusaders The conquest of Egypt through the Nile River, beginning of the Fifth Crusade. That role of the Nile River was represented in encouraging the Crusaders to carry out the Fifth Crusade, and then followed the arrival of the Fifth Crusade to Egypt on the 4th of Rabi’ Al-Awwal in the year 615 AH / 1218 AD, and the consequent fall of the city of Adiliya in the hands of the Crusaders 17 Rajab 615 AH / 1218 AD. AD) and the subsequent fall of the city of Damietta to the Crusaders on the 25th of Sha’ban in the year 616 AH / 1219 AD and concluded with the flood of the Nile River in the victory of the Ayyubids in the fifth campaign, Rajab 17 in the year 618 AH / 1221 AD .
