- Title
DOMINANCE AND THE TRIUMPH OF THE WHITE TRICKSTER OVER THE BLACK PICARO IN AMIRI BARAKA'S GREAT GOODNESS OF LIFE: A COON SHOW.
- Authors
Bennett, Michael Y.
- Abstract
The article examines the dominant-submissive relationship between the colonizer and the colonized, or the dominant master and inferior native, and the triumph of the white trickster over an African American picaro in Amiri Baraka's play "Great Goodness of Life: A Coon Show." It analyzes the Menippean satire on the trial and punishment of Court Royal. It explores the irony of the trickster coming from the ruling class and the chaos ordered by the judge.
