- Title
Genome instability: Targeted telomere insertion.
- Authors
Minton, Kirsty
- Abstract
The article discusses the study which shows that alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) might lead to genome instability by adding telomeric DNA to multiple discrete sites in the genome. It mentions that telomere is a region of repetitive nucleotide sequences at each end of a chromatid that protects the end of the chromosome from deterioration. It notes that disruptive telomere form dicentric chromosomes which can break at random positions during mitosis and cause genome instability.
