- Abstract
This article is an excerpt from a master's research, in which a study was carried out on "The city that grew in the shadow of the power plant: on the housing of electricity families in the city of Candiota (RS)". In this study, the relationships between electrical families and living in the city of Candiota are presented, seeking to reflect the associations of the former with the city and the plant. The work presented resulted from an ethnographic research, based on the narrative of workers, electricians, retirees and their families, pointing to the understanding of how families dialogue about the same urban phenomenon, that is, the constitution of the city from the polynuclear layout. As a result, it was noticed that the city grew in the shadow of the state-owned companies. Interviews, photographs and records in a field diary and researcher walks around the city were then carried out. It is concluded that the polynucleation of the city established the occupation of the territory through the mining industries.
