- Abstract
The study "Evil Flowers" on highways and roads in Bavaria presents results and insights from five years of research. The spread and control of invasive species such as ragweed, narrow-leaved ragwort, giant hogweed, and Japanese knotweed were examined at 17 locations in southern to northern Bavaria. Different cutting regimes and physical treatment methods were tested, with certain cutting variants achieving good results. The study shows that different years, locations, and plants require different control methods. The hot foam method was effective against ragweed and ragwort but promoted the growth of hogweed and knotweed. The electric shock lance was effective against ragweed, ragwort, and hogweed but less effective against knotweed. The study emphasizes the importance of site-specific management methods for containing invasive species.
