- Abstract
Halobenzoquinones (HBQs) are a new unregulated and potentially toxicologically relevant disinfection byproducts (DBPs) discovered in recent years. While their concentrations in water were all at the level of ng/L, HBQs exhibited higher toxicity compared to regulated DBPs such as trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs). At present, HBQs have been considered as the preferred DBPs in water, which are attracting active attention. However, the research on their precursors and environmental pollution levels is still rare. Based on the study on the formation precursor of HBQs and the pollution characteristics of HBQs in different water bodies in recent years were reviewed, and the existing problems and solutions of HBQs in the current research were proposed, in order to provide the research basis for the objective evaluation and pollution control of HBQs in environmental water bodies.
