- Title
WHAT THE FRAMERS INTENDED: A LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF THE RIGHT TO "BEAR ARMS.".
- Authors
HALBROOK, STEPHEN P.
- Abstract
The article presents a linguistic analysis of the right to "bear arms" of the second amendment. It is a response to the article "Handgun Prohibition and the Original Meaning of the Second Amendment," by Professor Don Kates that appeared in the " Michigan Law Review" in 1983. The author considers the following points in the Michigan article, namely, right to carry firearms for self defense, the exclusion of gun types such as "Saturday Night Specials," "gangster weapons," and offensive military weapons; and the constitutionality of firearms licensing and registration for gun ownership.
