- Title
ROBINSON v. CAHILL: THE "THOROUGH AND EFFICIENT" CLAUSE.
- Authors
TRACTENBERG, PAUL L.
- Abstract
The article discusses the New Jersey Supreme Court case Robinson v. Cahill as an attempt to reform public education funding in the state. It reports that in 1971 the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the California Supreme Court's ruling in the Serrano v. Priest case, which other states adopted. The New Jersey Supreme Court, however, sided with the latter when it ruled in the Robinson v. Cahill case, requiring fiscal neutrality and ensuring that public schools are funded according to need, instead of according to income paid per district.
