- Title
THE RESPONSE OF STATE LEGISLATION TO HISTORIC PRESERVATION.
- Authors
WILSON, PAUL E.; WINKLER II, H. JAMES
- Abstract
The article discusses differences in development of state laws for historical preservation acts. The importance of having state preservation law, aside from a national or federal law, in preserving historical landmarks, is explained. State laws such as the New Mexico Cultural Properties Act, New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the Hawaii Foundation for History and the Humanities are mentioned. Lawmakers are observed to be having increasing appreciation for the rationale behind historic preservation but implementation still needs to be assessed.
