- Title
URBAN RENEWAL REALISTICALLY REAPPRAISED.
- Authors
GROBERG, ROBERT P.
- Abstract
The article offers the author's views on the opinions of Martin Anderson, author of book "The Federal Bulldozer," on the federal assistance to urban redevelopment projects in the U.S., as expressed in his book. It states that Anderson has failed to recognize that the federal government can not initiate any redevelopment project and the program depends on local political support. It discusses how the use of the power of eminent domain in urban renewal lies on the decisions of state courts, and constitutional provisions of states authorize takings of private property by eminent domain. It examines various issues relating to urban renewal discussed in the book including the real estate taxes, family relocation achievements, and the potential of private investment.
