- Abstract
The article compares the family roles in aging and relationships for elders in primitive and agrarian settings in the U.S. It discusses various factors which have played an important role in gaining considerable rights by the elders in the family which include marriage, property rights and authority within the family circle. It presents several lessons to deal with age and knowledge about aging including aging is complex and challenging, aging can be good or bad, and individual difference. It further also suggests to maintain a balance between family situations and society in general and between the interests of the younger members of the family and its elders.
